Funnie....

This is a slightly long download, but totally worth it.
The Negro Space Program

I'm getting addicted to this blogging thing. I just woke up half an hour ago. The problems of having a DSL connection I tell you....

What the price of oil is doing to Dubai....

I really don't need to say that much...
http://www.theworld.ae/
And Mani Aiyar wants to give them even more of our money. Maybe he'll buy the New Delhi island, just like Rod Stewart has bought the United Kingdom island.
Just watching BBC World where Steven Cole just just said that there are 7,000,000 bloggers. And Click Online goes on to suggest how bloggers are attacking the domination of MainStreamMedia (MSM) effecting the resignations of Dan Rather and Eason Jordan. But, being a lowly paid member of the MSM, I really don't think so. Half the blogs in the world are big time cut and paste jobs and most of the Indian ones are rants. And MSM - ie Jain and Jain Company Limited (to give them a modern name) managed to shut down the one really good blog that there was Mediaah. Desi Media Bitch though a great read, or used to be great read got really really got up in the Tsunami, again rather populated by members of the MSM who like to bitch out their bosses. However, Rums blog is a great, and though the food is often rather exotic, its a better read than Big Cheese's rather boring columns on Sunday and makes a good diversion from blogs maintained by mediapersons (all employed by members of MSM, OK so rums is an ex-member of MSM) or techies (which all kinda obsess either on Aishwariya Rai or Alyssa Milano).
It was also pointed out that the talking bellybutton ad was a rip-off of an old Levi's low-rise Jeans ad. Hai, total lack of creativity in Indian advertising. If you guys want to check some great ads, visit these websites, niether actually safe for work, but if you can see past the implants, there are some really great ads hosted at both Dracule (be sure to see the Corvette ad) and LaCroqueta (some great and innovative Pepsi advertising from Brazil and some of Tarsem's work with Levi's).

Be my lover bubbly

I've often wondered why no person has ever set up a blog to bitch out advertising in India. I mean just look at the new ads from Coke and Pepsi, especially the latter. I mean, Aamir Khan in drag is better looking than anorexic models, but women with talking bellybuttons. Fuck. I didn't know what to say when I first saw it, but as one friend nicely pointed out, "Yet another hole to put the willy in." Thankfully someone took out a PIL and removed that part, because even though I am an unabashed sexist bastard (or so Friendgirl says) and an unapologetic viewer of kinky Japanese pRon (and my god those guys are kinky) this was a bit too much on public TV. Anyway, someone put up an AVI on Rapidshare of this ad, so click here to download it.
Of course, the other problem I have is with motorcycling adverts. Several of them have guys going around without helmets (though very few do that nowadays). I believe adverts should promote safety, I mean promoting promiscuity (a la Moods condoms) is fine, I mean condoms are supposed to be safe, right? Anyway, I shouldn't get too mad about these things either, after all its just marketing. Anyway, I do kinda like the new Surf ad, you know the 'do bucket pani' thing.

Oh, Pope John Paul II died on Saturday night, and may his soul rest in peace. It is good thing the man died, because watching his suffering (and he was suffering a lot) was becoming rather unbearable. He was also the only Pope so far in my rather not so long lifetime, so it will be nice seeing the Roman Catholic Church getting another spiritual leader. And hopefully change their stance on contraception as well.

On another front, again regarding Christianity, the first openly gay bishop says that Jesus might well have been homosexual. Which would probably explain the behaiviour of lots of priest folks around little boys. But will still not explain Michael Jackson.
Anyway, I believe that terrorists (or some assholes in London) have managed to stall the dry run of the Srinagar - Muzzafarabad bus. But, friend Nag in Srinagar, will report in, if he is not too busy fattening himself. Oh yeah, and I am off to Agra tomorrow, so I will blog from the city of the Taj, maybe even post some pics of the Taj with a million people teeming all around it. I'll maybe even make another entry tonight.

One day late

OK, so I was back to being hardcore internet addicted self, and found lots and lots of weird things on the interweb. Like this for example - GoogleGulp
Read on ...
At Google our mission is to organize the world's information and make it useful and accessible to our users. But any piece of information's usefulness derives, to a depressing degree, from the cognitive ability of the user who's using it. That's why we're pleased to announce Google Gulp (BETA)™ with Auto-Drink™ (LIMITED RELEASE), a line of "smart drinks" designed to maximize your surfing efficiency by making you more intelligent, and less thirsty.

Oh, and since I follow technology, I even found this little beauty. An exclusive peek at the new iTunes phone from Motorola
Wow! Some people are really more vela than me. I should really be working!

New caterer

Ah, the Naren is in the Srinagar. In Srinagar you get the most awesome food, fuck just thinking of the Ghostaba makes me salivate. Damn. Lucky bugger. And here I am in Delhi finally going to a gym. Should help me get to a decent BMI. Really, I've had enough of the 'beached whale' jokes.
There is a new caterer in the office canteen, and the food is noticably better. Seems less watered down and tasted better, though that said I should restart getting lunch from home. The problem being a journo sometimes is that you often have no clue where you end up at lunchtime and getting food from home usually means that it goes waste. Though, I must get someone to take me to Traventino at the Oberoi, I believe it is really good. The adjacent Three Sixty restuarant is amazingly good, they have the only good sushi I've had in Delhi.
For sushi though I believe you have to this one place in Manhattan called Naboo. Like the planet in Star Wars, but its owned by Robert DiNiro and is run by an Argetinian-born Japanese cook called Mr Naboo. Now I never went there, but my cuz, who is an extremely overpaid person did. Seven courses, with one morsel each and for the nice price of $200. But, its supposed to be spectacular, and even the toppest of top people can't get in there supposedly. God knows how my cuz managed.
While Naren is cooling his heels in Srinagar, I'm off to Agra for some Microsoft sponsored BS. But that is on Tuesday. There is a Formula One race in between then and now. I hope the Ferrari F2005 can do something now that the Scuderia have finally launched it and stop the rampaging Renaults and make the Flav man chill a bit.
I see we are giving the Paki boys a bit of a whipping in the one dayer. Anyway, let me get some work done and will report back after the evening exercise.
Actually maybe before that.

Talking heads early in the morning

Something called the Mass Communication Professionals Guild has organised a seminar on Media in Kashmir: Challenges and the Future. It’s a Saturday morning and everybody seems to be taking it easy. It was supposed to start at 10.30 … It’s already 11.

While walking to the venue -- IMPA, another day another acronym -- I was waiting for the lights before I could cross. Waiting right in front of me were two heavily laden men on a motorcycle. One of them dropped a packet. Nobody moved to help them. I knelt, picked up the packet and handed it to them with a smile. They avoided all eye contact. The traffic policeman standing and directing traffic glowered at me. There seems to be an unwritten rule out here about trust -- don’t trust a stranger.

Coming from a city filled with boorish people, I thought that that was as bad as it gets. But people smile in Delhi. Here, they just hope for the best -- which means getting home at night. Or am I overreacting.

The hall is filling up slowly. But the seats to my left and right remain empty. I still am the unknown quantity in here … it’s an interesting feeling. Surrounded by journalists -- a fraternity to which I stake claim as well --- and yet completely out of everything happening around me. I hope the seminar is conducted in English.

things that make you go... behanc***!

I know I should be working. Really, I have a lot of work. Which I must finish, because I am starting the gym routine from today, you know I must lose weight shit. Actually, its the 'I must lose weight so that I can get more sex' thing, and occasional FriendGirl will now kill me for making that statement, because she starts gymming as well.
Damn!
OK, but the reason I came here was to show you useless buggers, who read this pointness blog of mine - The Musuem of Bad Album Covers

WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT??? Is this gay or is this gay. And bad gay at that? And what on earth does Showaddywaddy mean? Someone please please tell me.
For very obviously obvious reasons I cannot post the worst ever album cover, or the one voted to that position by visitors to that site. Y'see I'ld be arrested on charges of displaying kiddie pornography if I did, but from the pic above I hope you get the picture, anyway visit the site to hear of even more musicians that you have never heard of - like the 'The Singing Postman' and the 'The Louvin Brothers'. And to think that I actually listened to that group once upon a blue moon.

OK, back to work, more posts later.
And happy April Fool's Day, by the way. That said, the site above is not a joke. Nor is the fact that Gmail (email by Google) is increasing storage capacity to TWO GIGABYTES. I've had computers with less storage capacity less than seven years ago.
Damn! Now there is even more space for pRon in my inbox.

In Kashmir

I am in Kashmir and blogging. Visit my blog

From the other side

Pakistan Times - Pakistan's First Independent Complete Daily E-Newspaper

News begins to lose its easy urban character out here pretty quickly. There is no straight story. The balanced story ceases to exist. Fact is shrouded beneath politics, old hatreds, deep mistrust and everything else that falls in between.

There are too many stakeholders in every sphere of life. Too many people wanting to influence every little thing ... To start with there's one country too many: take your pick between India and Pakistan. Then there are the politicians, the quasi-politicians, the opportunitists and the fixers. And let's not forget about the police, armed constabulary, the border security force, various regiments of the army, various secret agents and various other gun toting members of that umbrella organisation, 'security forces'. And then there are the militants fighting for Free Kashmir, slightly free kashmir, free of India Kashmir, free to be taken over by Pakistan Kashmir, free from everything but the gun Kashmir ... Oh, and there are the Kashmiris as well doomed to their fate of being eternal afterthoughts.

Something I read...

I freaking swear to god, there is a publication in Delhi, which had the following lines. It just has to be the funniest stuff I have ever read, but we’ll do the critical analysis of it in parentheses. The guys don’t have a website, so I will write in lines – VERBATIM – from ‘The Campus Paper’ Vol. 2 Issue 2 March 1-15, 2005. And yes, I am ob-la-di vella.

High’s the limit

Music and drugs have been together forever (duh! But were drugs around in Beethoven’s time?) - Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix all offered themselves to its hallucinogenic world that consumed them in the end (not quite, Morrison couldn’t take a bath quite right and he might have on white, Hendrix was so pissed drunk that he threw up inside his mouth and Presley just had the munchies – I mean what else can you say when a guy has deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches) ….. For the young (define please?), experimentation with drugs is an inevitable part of college (f**k no, half my college was a bunch of wusses and we were considered hardcore, um, maybe because we were, but that is a different story), the sign of rebellion with the maximum zing (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? But it gets more interesting folks)… In the sixties, you smoked a ‘spliff’ to tell the establishment that you didn’t agree with it. Now, you do a line of cocaine to tell your friends you’re ‘in’ (oh fyuking hell dude, I’m just sooooo in). You empty a cigarette and and fill it with marijuana (empty a cigarette – dude – five letters for you – RIZLA – I use Smoking Silver tho), and the next thing you know, you’re invited to a few parties. It’s almost automatic. (That’s why I drive a stick shift, mon dost)

Now that was only bits of the intro. It gets far more interesting, but I won’t waste time typing that shit out. Other than this line…

And Anurag is part of a massive majority of students, who gravitate everyday towards wanting to be less conspicuous on campus – put acid in their veins.

Now, the English here is so amazing I’m at a loss for words. Yet, when you talk of ‘putting something in your vein’ it means shooting up, and shooting up LSD seems to me the most freaking insane thing I have heard in a long time. Too long. LSD in your veins. Fyuk. That would be lethal. I mean the last time I did acid, I had a double-dip dose, and I flipped out, if shooting LSD is what guys were doing, the first thing I would want to know is how the hell they regulate quantities? Because even a one ml hit of pure LSD would be at least 1000 mics, and that is Sid Barret-esque.

More likely, the guy has no idea what he is talking about.

In an inside page there is an account how a student of SSC got rid of the smack habit, quite likely that the asshole was in my class. Wasn’t the smartest thing in the world to do – Smack, because its dirty and really does fuck you up. Yes, the world of marijuana is clichéd, but it’s a whole lot safer.

Not that drugs are good.

No kids, if you’re reading this – Stay off Drugs.

They not good.

Me big hypocrite.

But, this is still the most hilarious piece of reportage in years.
